I Am Hope

Kia ora. At Paihia School a man named Tai came in and talked to us about how to help people with there mental Health the best part of Tai’s speech was when he was talking about his past because it was interesting. I learnt that everyone has their own conversation in their head and that there is a negative voice inside of your head that when you are depressed or angry, the negative voice will kick in and tell you negative things. Tai also told the class to ask people how they are doing so you can cheer them up I will ask people how they feel in the future to try and cheer them up. Have you ever cheered someone up by asking them how they feel?

Ngahau Dot Plot

Kia ora. In Te Ngahere the whole class has been learning about dot plots. Dot plots are a type of graph that use dots as the data. For example in this pdf (winning dots) they have a dot plot and they are trying to measure the distance and the range of room 1 and room 2 ball throwing skills. When I was doing my DLO about this pdf (winning dots). I did not know what range meant. I thought that range meant the distance of the ball that traveled. But now I know what it means. The way you find the range is you have to get the lowest number and the biggest number and subtract the smaller number by the bigger number and the answer equals the range. Example if someone threw the ball 3 meters and someone else threw the ball 15 meters you do 15-13=12 so 12 is the range. I also could improve my DLO by explaining what the range meant clearer. Did you know what a dot plot was before you read my post?

Stunning Science

Kia ora. At Paihia School our class Te Ngahere went to Bay College for a science roadshow. I learnt that there are different types of gases around the world and that if you pour liquid nitrogen onto a balloon the balloon will shrink because the liquid nitrogen is so cold the gas in the balloon dissolves and then when you blow on it the liquid nitrogen vanishes and the gas makes its way back into the balloon. There were also different types of science projects my favorite one was when you have to try and make any object in a basket float mid way up a tube while the tube was pushing the wind up. I managed to make a object stop I used a shuttlecock with a light piece of string. The purpose of this experiment was to see if it mattered by the shape of the object or the weight of the object. Have you ever been to a science roadshow?

Ngahau (amazing) Technology

Kia ora. At Paihia School all of the year 7 and 8’s went to technology. I enjoy technology because we are building waka and the year 7’s made a apple sponge cake. I think that my waka is coming together really well because I was trying to make everything perfect, I want my waka to be better than everybody else’s. Have you ever built a waka before?

Cyber Smart Relationships

Kia ora. In Te Ngahere my class and I have been learning to be internet safe, this includes so that we don’t talk to strangers or so that we don’t give random people our personal information. We can only be safe by not sharing personal information or talking to strangers online. Have you ever talked to a stranger?

Ngahau Technology

Kia ora. At Paihia School all of the year 7 and 8’s went to technology. The year 7’s are doing cooking and the year 8’s are doing woodwork. My year group are making little wooden waka. We are also still learning about how to use some of the tools like the metal melting tool. I think that I am doing a great job on my waka but I also think that I need to get better at using the file because I am not that great at it. Have you been to technology before?

Fishy Cybersmart

Kia ora. In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to use more tools on Google drawing to create pictures of animals or anything. What we had to do was create anything using the tools that we learnt how to use. What I made was fish and electric eel and patrick and spongebob. I think that I am really good at doing this because I think that my drawings are great but I also think that I need more practice because they ain't the best. Do you use Google drawing?

Ngahau Sports

Kia ora. At Paihia School Te Ngahere and Te Maunga have been gathering to do pe rotations. The sports were touch, soccer, netball and skill games. The sport that I played was touch rugby and we were learning how to pass the ball correctly and to collaborate with our team members. We also learnt how to look before you pass so the other team doesn't catch the ball mid bass that is called a interception. My favorite sport is soccer because there is a lot of running included. What is your favorite sport?

Running Ball

Kia ora. In the holiday I went to soccer practice. Soccer practise is really important for me because I want to get really fit. Soccer is a really great sport if you want to get fit because there is a lot of running in this sport. To score points you have to pass and work with your team to get to the goal on the other side of the pitch (field). In the goal there is a goalie, the goalie tries to stop the ball with his body and if you get the ball in the goal the goalie also uses gloves to stop the ball. If the goalie misses you score a point. Soccer is one of my favorite sports because it includes a lot of running. What type of sport do you play?

Forging Wood

Kia ora. In Te Ngahere the year 7 and 8’s have been going to Moerewa school for Technology. Technology is really fun because sometimes we get to do cooking and sometimes we do wood work. This time we went we did wood work and for wood work we are making little waka. I think that it is really easy because I know what tools to use and how to use them. I also think that it is hard to build these waka because we have to get the right measurements to cut the wood. What have you built with your hands that was challenging?

Interesting Smart Surfing

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about Smart Surfing. For Smart Surfing we have to find keywords in a question and then use those keywords to type into Google because if we type the whole question it would find all of the pages that has how on them. For example if I ask Google what do spiders eat it would find all of the documents that have, what and do, but if you just right that keywords like spiders diet it would give you a perfect answer about spiders eat. Have you learnt about this before?

Ngahau Maori

Kia ora. In Te Ngahere my class has been learning how to pronounce our maori words correctly. We had to pronounce our maori alphabet, greetings and place names in maori. I thought that it was really easy because I am half maori and half pakeha. I also found it hard because some of the words were a bit tricky to pronounce. I need to practise how to pronounce the place names more because I am not that great at it. Can you pronounce maori words correctly?

Coastal Seas

Kia ora. In Te Ngahere at Paihia School we have been learning about the Coastal Seas. We watched a episode called coastal seas which gave us interesting facts about what happens in the coastal seas and how it works. I thought that the video was really interesting because I learnt new facts about the ocean. We learned about Humpback Whales, Grey Reef Sharks, White Tipped Sharks, Bottlenose Dolphins, Sea Otters, Sea Lions, Stingrays and Manta Rays. We then had to create a slide presentation about what we learned and put our fact on each slide. Do you know anything about the ocean?

Hard Math Equations

Kia ora. In Te Ngahere group of students and I have been learning about decimal place value. We had to use decimals. At first I thought that it was hard because I didn’t really understand what the leaders of my groups were talking about. But then it was easier because the leaders of the group wrote something on the white board to make sure that everyone understood what to do. We first had to write down the Tens, Ones, Tenths, Hundredths and Thousandths columns. Then there was a number so we had to write the first number in the tens columns and so on. After that we had to say the number and then we had the ans (answer). Have you ever done maths like this?

Delicious Butter Chicken

Kia ora. At Paihia School the whole class went to Greens for Shivam’s birthday lunch. I thought that was really nice of Shivam to let us go to Greens for his birthday lunch. We went to Greens because his parents owns the restaurant. I thought that the food was great, what we had was butter chicken, rice and naan bread and man it was nice. We also got Coke and Sprite. That day was probably the best birthday lunch i’ve ever been to. At the end of lunch Shivam and his family came in with a shopping cart of easter eggs we then all started to scream out heads off. We wanted to wish him a happy birthday so Jade & Angela presented a card to Shivam with all of our names in it to say thanks and happy birthday. Right after we got our easter eggs we sung three waiata to say thank you to Shivam & his Whanau. Have you been to greens for lunch?

Interesting Ngahere Walk

Kia ora. In Te Ngahere we have been learning about native species in our ngahere. So on Thursday our teachers decided that we would go for a walk into the ngahere so we did. We went to the ngahere so that we could try and see what we have been researching. Unfortunately I did not see what I was researching I was researching about Flax Snails. Did you know that Flax Snails can grow upto 8 cm long. Has your class ever been on a ngahere walk?

Delicious Cooking

Kia ora. On Tuesday all of the year 7 & 8’s went to Morewa for technology. All of the year 8’s do cooking and the year 7’s do wood work. For cooking we made meat pies and the year 7’s made metal necklaces. I think that the making the meat pies was really hard because we had to make sure we did not burn it. The easy thing about making the meat pie was eating it. But the easy part was actually cutting all of our ingredients. I really enjoyed this because it is good practice because I also have to cook at home. Have you ever made meat pies?

Confusing Collaboration

Kia Ora. In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to collaborate together. So for this activity we had one drawer and two runners. The drawer had to wait for the runners to run outside and then look at the teachers picture. Then the runners had to somehow tell the drawer what to draw and where to draw on the paper without touching or pointing at it. Our first attempt I thought that we did really well because I was the drawer and I had a good group because they could coordinate without touching or pointing at the paper. Our second attempt was worse than the first attempt because most of the time me and my mate were the runners and most of the time we would keep telling the drawer what to do and we would get louder and louder. The challenging thing about this task was that we could not touch or point at where the drawer had to draw so we had to coordinate using our mouths. Our first attempt is the one with the big smiley face on it. Have you ever done this activity before?

Delicious Food Web

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about a food web. A food web is something that animals feed off from each other, for example the Tui eats the Kowhai tree and the Stoat eats the Tui. An animal food web contains. Herbivores Carnivores Decomposers I enjoyed learning about this because I have learnt what animals eat what. I think that my food web looks like the teachers food web but the teacher has more arrows and the arrows are different colored so that you can tell what animal eats what. I also found the Activity hard because we had to put the arrows in the right places and pointing at the right animal so if there was a green arrow pointing at the Tui and coming from the Kowhai tree then that means that the energy is transferred to the Tui. Have you ever made your own food web?

Whakamataku(Scary) Tsunami

On Friday there was a tsunami warning My family and I had to evacuate my home to go to the golf club, because it was very high up and the tsunami would not be able to reach us. At first I thought that it was a drill but then my mum said that it was a real tsunami warning. Once we got to the top of the golf club we had to stay there for around 3 to 4 hours and then we drove to Shay’s house and got a pie. After about half an hour we went back to the golf club because my mum wanted to see the tsunami hit the rocks even though she was scared. 2 hours later we went home and I was glad to see my chromebook again. I didn’t enjoy the tsunami because I thought that I wouldn’t be able to come to school and see my friends again and I wouldn’t be able to see my teachers, but I wanted the tsunami to hit so I can see how big it was because I have never seen one before. Have you ever seen a tsunami before?

Ngahau Pepeha

In Te Ngahere we have been learning a mihi to say in the morning in our class. We have to say the mihi because we need to acknowledge the people who said the karakia/ and himene. We also have to say our pepeha. I think that I know my pepeha off by heart because I have been practising it over and over again in my head, but I think that I need to keep practising the mihi because I don’t really know it. Do you know your pepeha?

Caring Kawa Of Care

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about how to take care of our chromebooks this is called Kawa Of Care, because when we have a chromebook you need to take care of it so that it doesn’t break. Taking care of it means that you can’t eat/ or drink near your chromebook, you also have to carry your chromebook with 2 hand and the lid shut. I to chose create an animation about the kawa of care to show my learning to other students in my class. Do you follow the Kawa Of Care?

Popping Pop Art

Kia ora my name is Dale and in Te Ngahere we have been learning about Roy Lichtenstein. Roy Lichtenstein is a famous artist, he did not just paint he also did sculptures, murals, prints and ceramics. One of Roy Lichtenstein paintings sold for over $55million dollars. I thought that this task was really easy because all we had to do was read a text, find interesting facts and then create a blog post. The hardest thing about this was probably finding the interesting facts. One of the things he used to create his art was fewer colors and he used dots. We are learning about Roy Lichtenstein because we are going to do our self portrait next week. Do you know who Roy Lichtenstein is? This is what he looks like and his art:
